Production Notes
All of the locations described in the script are real places that are available for filming. BLM land requires permits but they are inexpensive ranging from $80-$150 per location per day.
Hornsilver is now called Gold Point. The historic buildings are still there along with an old western saloon. Accommodations are available and there are also RV hookups, a large commercial kitchen at the saloon and a runway suitable for most planes.
Local Resources:
A few of the local residents have theatrical set design and costuming expertise.
UPS makes daily deliveries. Las Vegas is about 2 hours south on Highway 95.
Water, electricity and wifi are on site.
Gasoline and diesel are available in town.
If needed, there are 3 pilots, 2 contractors, and a chef living in Goldpoint full time.
Off road vehicles and guide services are also on-site.
For the train scene I would recommend the City of Ely, NV which still has a
working steam train and even a tunnel.
The writer is not trying to control the production, but can serve as a useful
creative resource. The goal is to help a producer quickly understand the
emotional core of the film, the visual possibilities, and the practical ways
the story could be produced without losing its impact.
