The food is gone

They expected to find everything as they left it. The wagon is still there, the suitcases, blankets, tent, pots, pans, and water barrel still piled inside.

But the two burlap food sacks have been torn open on the wagon bed. The rice and beans are gone. The wagon remains, but the thing they needed most has vanished.
