Scene 21 / PDF page 22
All Night with Sam’s Body

Outside the saloon, the boys sit beside their dead father through the night hoping their mother will return.
They are cold, filthy, and silent. Ethan believes their mother will come back. Elliot watches the road but knows she won't.
Eventually they cry themselves to sleep.
They are children guarding over a parent’s body because there's nowhere else to go.
In the morning the coroner/barber helps them haul Sam's body to the cemetery.
