Elliot and Ethan have to bury their own father

At a lonely desert graveyard, the boys face their father’s burial. There are a few rough markers, dry brush, dirt, wind, and the smallness of two children standing beside a fresh grave.

Sam’s compass, wallet, and remaining money become more than belongings. They are the only inheritance the boys can use to survive.
